OBITUARY.

MR. ANDREW ARMOUR. \ AGED NINETY-ONE YEARS. A resident of the Auckland district for the past 63 years, Mr. Andrew Armour, died at the home of his daughter, Pa Road, Epsom, at the advanced age of 91. He was the fifth child of Mr. and Mrs. William Armour, and was born at Uplaw Moor, Renfrewshire, Scotland- He worked on his father's farm, and at the age of 12 was ploughing. He used to start delivering milk to customers at 3 a.m. and for all his long life he was a great worker. At the age of 27, Mr. Armour landed in Auckland from the ship Portland. He paid his passage out and was entitled to a grant of 40 acres of land from the Government, which he did not bother to take up. Like many of the early arrivals Mr- Armour had to turn his hand to all kinds of work, including ploughing, harvesting, carting, pit sawing, bush, felling and road making. He was at one time in the employ of the late Mr. Robert Graham, at Ellerslie, where the racecourse is now located- Mr. Armour tried his luck at Thames goldfield and then joined his brother John on a farm at Matakana. Later he also assisted his brother William on his farm in the same district. Mr. Armour married the youngest daughter of the late Mr. Hugh Davies, at Matakana, in ISB2. He did a lot of road formation at Mahurangi, Matakana, Te Ari, Pakiri and Glorit. After his marriage, he was farming on his own account at Whangaripo, and in 1913 settled at Big Muddy Creek, where the house 'was subsequently burned down accidentally. In 1920 Mr. Armour had a paralytic stroke, and for the last five years has lived with a daughter at Pa Road- Mrs. Armour and the following children survive: Mesdames J. St. Paul, Ardmore; W. Gibbs. Bulls; O. McLeod. New Lynn: E. J. Williamson, Gratia; Miss E. T. Armour, Messrs. William Andrew Armour, and Andrew Davies Armour. Mr. A. P. FRIEND. A highly-respected resident of Parnell, Mr. Arthur Pearson Friend, died yesterday at his residence, 43, St. Stephen's Avenue, at the age of 70 years. Mr. Friend was born at Kingsbridge, near Plymouth, England, and had twelve years' experience in the soft goods trade at that town- He went to London in 1883 as secretary of a large electrical company, which position he held for six years. He arrived in Melbourne in 1890, and joined the staff of Messrs- L. Stevenson and Sons, Ltd., Flinders Lane. Three years later he was selected bv Sir Frederick Sargood to fill the position of secretary to the Kauri Timber Company, at Auckland. In 1898 he retired and started business o-n his owjj account as an accountant and commission agent. In June, 1899, he was appointed district manager at Auckland to the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation. For some years past Mr. Friend devoted his abilities to the work of an insurance adjuster, at which he was most successful. He held three Cambridge University certificates, and was a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Accountants. For a time Mr- Friend was a member of the Parnell Borough Council, and of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Latterly he was in illhealth on account of blood pressure, and a few days ago was found unconscious in his house. Mr. Friend is survived by his wife and one daughter. The interment will be at Hillsboro' Cemeterv to-morrow afternoon. REV. H. B. WINSBTJRY WHITE. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star."i DUNEDIN, Thursday. The death occurred this morning of the Rev. H. B. Winsbury White, at the early age of 39 years. Deceased was one of the most popular padres at Trentham and Feathersteon camps during and after the war, and was the last chaplain to be demobilised. Prior to that he was vicar of Blenheim parish, and after his camp service he was appointed to the parochial district of Waikouaiti. For some months prior to his death he was working in the social service department of the Anglican Church in Dunedin. He is survived by his wife and one child.
