CAMBRIDGE SHOW.

ENTRIES A FROVTNCIAIi RECORD. FTNB SALE OF GIFT CALVES. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.*') CAMBRIDGE, this day. The Cambridge show is proceeding this afternoon with an unprecedented degree of success. Since early forenoon a steady stream of visitors has been pouring in, until the grounds are thronged as never before. Ideal show weather prevails, and the closing events within the horse ring are producing much enthusiasm. It is of interest to note that the entries (2,020) are a record for the Auckland province. Another and highly successful feature of this year's show has been the sale by auction of a number of gift calves. At the suggestion of Mr Norman, Banks, the Association offered £28 in prizes for competition between calves, which were to remain the property of the Association. The entries totalled 120, but only 48 of them were penned, the balance being accounted for by cash donations. The 48 realised a sum of £145 2/0. while the cash donations brought the total up to £272 12/9. The first submitted, a heifer, a Holstein cross, bred by Mr J. W. Garland, which realised 6igs, being bought by Mr W. G. Park, who generously returned the animal to the Association. Mr C. C. Buckland bought the same calf for 7gs, and likewise returned It. Mr James Taylor paid 6Jgs, when the calf was again put up, and the original owner then became the purchaser for 6gs. A steer calf was bought by Mr Jno. Fisher for 3sgs and re-sold to Mr W. Fisher at a similar figure. The top price for a steer was £4 5/ paid by Mr James Taylor. The honorary auctioneers were Messrs Dalgety, Ltd The following are the latest results — Best Hack.— E. .7.
