SUNDAY TRAMS.
The Legal Committee of the City Council met at 3 p.m. yesterday to receive the report of the town clerk and the returning officer regarding the scrutiny of the roils used at the recent poll re Sunday trams. There were present the Mayor (the Hon. E. Mitchelson), Councillors J. C. Parr, J. T. Julian, C. D. Grey. A. J. Entriean, Mr Wilson, and Mr T. Cotter. The report submitted was as published in our last issue, that 30 cases required further investigation. The committee instructed the ballotpapers to be searched through for the particular numbers specified' in the report, md in some cases persons named will be asked for explanations. It is not intended in any way to interfere with the secrecy of the ballot outside of ascertaining whether the numbers ticked off at more than one booth really represented double votes, or were clerical errors. The committee meet again next Friday to receive the further report of the town clerk and returning officer.
