A RECOMAIENDATION TO THE HOUSE.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday,
The report of the Public Petition* Committee on 85 petitions praying that! steps might be taken to make- the Bank of New Zealand absolutely and entirely a State bank was laid on the table of the House yesterday.
The Committee reported that it clulcH not recommend the prayers of the petitions, but that it be a recommendation* to the Government that any State guar-* antee granted to the Bank' of New Zealand at the close of the existing ar-« rangement be in the nature of the colony joining as a shareholder, and retaining a proportionate coutrol in tha management of the bank.
It was generally anticipated that % lengthy debate would follow the pre* of the report, but it was rfi* ceived without a word being said foe or against. *
