The tender of Mr E. Hutehisoa has been accented for the repairs and alterations to the Aucklunt) Cltib, recently damaged by fire. Mr • Hutchison s tender amounts to £1325, and was chOHcn out of fifteen. The proposed alterations to the Club will include the entire remodelling of the ground floor. Two large smoking rooms will \m provided, rind the secretary's office will be let, while the strangers' rooms v/JII be. eonnidcrubly altered. A grand giMltmm will lead to the second floor, when! the bedroom accommodation will be materially increased. The brink building on the Cluh'H property in Fort-»trecfc l« approaching completion, and will greatly improve the back view of the Club.

The flat we had in cultivation in covered with timber and stoneK. All the fences are gone. Everything in the Halt was washed away, fowls, trees, tools, and everything. You would not know the place if yon saw it now. I think it must have been a waterspout that burst over the place. We have not heard what damage our neighbours have had, but believe they must have suffered. —Philip Warren." With respect to the buildings in the city condemned from time to time as dangerous to public health, it appears that in the majority of eases the notices to pull down or repair have been compleid with. Several of those not attended to, comprising' some eight buildings, have been left in the | hands of the city solicitor to enforce - compliance.
