HAMILTON V. HUNTLY.
The third of the Waikato Cup maithes, Hamilton v. Huntly, was played in theCcmpany's paddock, Huntly, on Saturday la.pt. As each team had a win to its cred'ic, both were eager to wccupy the premier pos-llicu; consequently the game was fast and writing throughout. With the wind in their favour during the lirst half, Hamilton kept the ball well within their opponents' territory, and looked like scoring several times. Huntly, however,, prevented this, ana. It was not until four minutes from time rhot Hamilton obtained a. try. Gillett failed to convert. In the second spell the portion was reversed, Huntly pressing the blues hard and 'breaking through their combiiuitlon several times. The maroon forwards at last dashed over the line, Scherff securing a try. At this time Dingle played a conspicuously fine game, a bold rush securing what the spectators considered a try, but what the referee decided to be a touch-in-gcal—a decision which evoked many signs of disapproval. Both sideß endeavoured 'ineffectually to Increase the score, the game thus ending In a draw. Among tlie forwards Hall (Huntly) and Gillett (Hamilton) were conspicuous. The former, <f he used his head more, could give points to any of them. Always on the ball, Hall plays a strong and vigorous game %vlthout the "finesse" of Gillett, but with more verve and dash. McPlke (Hamilton) and N. Dingle (Huntly) are a grand pair, and uneijualled for speed and ilnish. Lovell and .Scherff for Huntly and Blackwell for Hamilton did yeoman's work. Mr R. J. Gwynne acted as referee, and the players were quite satisfled with his decisions. The Huntly players entertained thf visitors to dinner In Harris' hotel.—(Own Correspondent.)
