no hnrn in France in 1847 of an old family f tho Western Highlands of Scotland. His patS settled 8 in South Australia when Mr Macdonald was very young. Hβ came to Wellington about 1870, entered "to business soon after as accountant, and agent and auctioneer, and has since an extensive business. He founded the Equitable Building and Investmont Society, and was eeveral years as Sanager and director in conjuncwith Messrs Henderson and Jyveill He established the Wellington tramway*, was really founder of the WelHngW Woollen Company »» d *>"*>«» managing director throughout. He also took an active part in launching the Wel-Uneton-Manawatu Railway Company, has heen City Auditor and City Councillor in Wellington, President of the Caledonian Society for two years; is opposed to the Present Government,'and professes Liberal opinions, especially on the land question, lie is an excellent public speaker.
