PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.-Wednes-day.
In the Provincial Council yesterday, in reply to a question, the Provincial Secretary stated that the North Head reserve had been let to Mr. Wyles at a rent of £10 a year ; and with inference to the Flagstaff Hill, it was replied that Mr. Duder had permission from the late Superintendent to fence in that reserve, on condition of not excluding persons from it as a recreation ground. The resolution of Mr.' Phillips, for the gradual closing of the Symouds-street Cemetery, v,as carried ; a bridge at Ngaruawahia was resolved on. A long discussion ensued on a motion for returns relative to General Government officers whose salaries are charged against the province, which was ultimately carried ; and the Highways Bill and Opaheke Koad Bill were further considered in committee.

Among the subjects on the Notice Paper for to-day, we find the following : —
Mr. McLkod to move, " That a select committee be appointed, to consider the best means of promoting and developing fisheries in this province. Committee to consist of Mr. Speaker, Mr. Boylan, Mr. Creighton, Mr. Dyer, Mr. Lusk, Mr.'J. McLeod, 3>. Nicholson, Dr. Sam, Mr. Sheeban, and the mover. Committee to report on the 6:h "December." Captain Freer to move, " That inasmuch as the General Government have declaiel their intention of opening up the country for settlement, this Council is of opinion that His Honor's attention should be called to the state of the roads and bridges in the Waikato,_ with the view—J. Of recommending the making a sioor! dray road from Raglan to Havipipi, Alexandra, and Te Awamutu, on the one hand, and from Ha ri pi pi to Whatawhata on the other. 2. That encounigemcnt be gi-en io the building of substantial flour mills in various parts of the delta of the Waikato." Mr. G-OBDOX to move, "That a respectful' iddresd bo presented to Ifis Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to place the sum of £300 on the additional estimates for promoting agricultural exhibitions, to be divided among the Agricultural Societies of the Province, as his Honor may think fit." Mr. Swaxsox to move, "Thnt a respectful ■uldress be presented to His Honor the' Superintendent, requesting him to place on the additional estimates a sufficient sum to defray 'lie expense requisite to procure a thorough testing ol the native woods in this province, as to their strength, toughness, and durability under various circumstances, and also as to their adaptabil ty for dyeing, tanning, and
other industrial purposes." Mr. Philips to move, "That an address be presented to His Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to place on the additional Estimates the sum of £100, in aid of the Mechanics' Instil utc."
Mr. MtrKH.vf to move, "That a respectful address be presented to His Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to place upon tho additional Estimates the sum of £80, for competitive designs, showing the best manner in which the Albert Barracks and Fort Britoinart r:an be laid out according to previous resolutions of this Council."
The Licensing, Dighwaj'?, Education, Knipura Railway, arid Education Reserves Management Uills, are also on the notice paper for further consideration.
