POLICE COURT.—THURSDAY.
Drunkenness. — Elizabeth Canning and Mary Minnity were fined each 5s and costs, or to be imprisoned 24< hours. Municipal Police Act. —Albert Kell was charged with discharging fireworks in Victoriastreet, on the night of November s.—Constable Jeffrey deposed, about quarter to 10 saw a number of boys discharging fireworks, went up on the dark side of the street and saw one go from the hand of defendant. For the defence, Frederick Lee deposed that the lad had not gone up with the party of boys throwing crackers. Could not swear he did not pick up a cracker and discharge it. Fined Is and Co3ts. Laeceny.—James Kelly was charged with stealing wearing appai-el?on November 8, value 7 3 6d. —Catherine Nicholson deposed to the articles produced as having been stolen from her house at Smailes' Point. Never saw the prisoner before. —Constable Green deposed to having found prisoner at half-past 3 in the morning in the street with the articles concealed under his coat. He said he had picked them up in the street. Prisoner who had previously convicted of larceny, was sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labor. Assault with Intent to Rob.—Charles Harris, Thomas Sheehan, Joseph Smith, and Patrick Bedford were charged" with having feloniously assaulted William Chambers at the Waikomiii hotel, on the 7th November, with intent to rob him of £31. Mr. Broham withdrew the charge against the three latter prisoners, who were discharged. He asked for an adjournment of the ease against Charles Harris, for whom Mr. Joy appearing, consented ; and it was adjourned accordingly till Monday next.
