AUCKLAND RIFLE VOLUNTEER BAND.
To the Editor of the Evenings Stae,
Sib, —Having noticed in one of our morning papers complaints against the Volunteer Band for refusing to march out with the battalion the last march-out night, I cannot refrain from making a few remarks on it. On the night in question, the band were at practice, as is usual on Thursday evening, when they got notice that they were to play the men out for a march, consequently our bandmaster having to go to his employment, the band did not care about going without their leader. If they want a hand, let them do as the otber provinces do that have a band, and as the Volunteer regulations, I believe, commands all members enrolled in the Volunteer force to pay the sum of one shilling per month, out of the number of Volunteers enrolled at present, that would keep their band in good order, and place at their option to march out when they pleased. —I am, &c. B.D.
