NEW ZEALAND DIVORCE COURT.
On the 15th instant the ca3o of Lett v. Lett and another, -was heard at Wanganui, before their Honors Chief Justice Arney, Justices Johnston, Gresson, Chapman, and Richmond.
Mr. G-. A. Allen appeared for tho petitioner in this case, who was in attendance, but the respondent and co-respondent did not appear. It appeared from the setting out of the case that petitioner was married to Mary Harris on tho 30th October, 186G, at Wauganui. They had one child as issue, a boy. The petitioner applied for a dissolution of marriage on the ground of adultery on the pavt of his wife. This breach of tho conjugal vows occurred at Slrank's Crown Hotel, Temuka, Canterbury, on the 29th April, witii one Win. Scowan. On this instance ho founded his case, but there were others. With this same Scowan petitioner's wife committed adultery on the 9fch April,. 18G9, at Bimbridgo's Hotel, Ofcaia : and also at the Criterion Hotel, Akaroa, and at other qimes and places during the mouths of April, May, and Juno, with the same person.
Mr. Allan called the brother of petitioner
James Lett : I am clerk in the Wanganwi Steam Navigation Ooinpanyte offices. I saw the preliminary notice of a proposed marriage between my brother and Mary Harris. I was at the marriage party. They lived a3 husband and wife very happily until last October. , They, had oho child. Know Scowau, who is my wife's brother. He is a cabinet polisher, and is between 19 and 22 years of ago. Know of my brother going to Canterbury; he had his* w,ifo with»himj After about a year's abafeinfe .?he jcame Jpick to Wanganui alone, and went to my mother's. Scowan is at Wanganui now. I havo repeatedly seen Scowan and Mrs. Lett waikiug after dark in the town— not arm in arm, but alongside, of each other. Scowan is a fair young man of middle height. Mrs. Lett was lately confined in Wanganui. David Ramsay said he was a^policemau; at Akaroa, and remembered the particular nigHt in quostion. He was at the hotel that night, and saw Mrs. Lett and Scowan'together, both in,their., nighfe clothes ; and heptherwise cor-' roborated the allegations made by petitioner as to the circumstance. _^ __ im . m ,,, v .
