UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Upper Ashbur'ton Road Board :was held on Saturday. ' Present: 'Messrs J. Tucker (chairman), J. Farrell, H. J. C. Harper, A. Horsey, and J. Allen.

The chairman reported a credit balance of £55 5s Id.

Progress; League •wrote- asking for particulars concerning the length, cost of upkeep, etc., of the principal roads under the jurisdiction of the* board, also that a delegate be appointed. The matter of supplying the "information, asked .for was left to the chairman and the surveyor. Mr Tucker was appointed the board's representative on the League. The Ashburton County Council forwarded a copy of a resolution, passed at its last meeting, in connection with Colonel' Chaffey'B statement with regard to the proposal to hold military training camps. The matter was discussed at length, and it was subsequently resolved that the letter be laid on the table. -

In reply-to a letter asking for a donation towards improving the bridges on the Main South Road, the Canterbury Automobile Association stated that the roads committee would shortly be visiting : the county at an early date and would consider the request after an inspection had been made.—Received. The following transfers wej-e agreed to:—F. T. Smitheram to C. W. Totty lot 156 D.P. 236, 20 acres; J. W. Rogers to Mrs C. Oakley lot 47 D.P. 1494; W T Oakley to Mrs J. Meacham, lot 2 D.P. 8255 R.S. 10092; Estate U. Spencer to Mrs M. Smith, P.T. R.S. 6503, 21018, 22128 and 6504; Estate M. Spencer to A. R. R. Keith, R.S. 30519, etc.; L. Stoddart to E. Goss, R.S. 26913, eta.; R. Bird to J. H. Kerr, lot 115 D.P. 236. . ■ The , chairman was appointed the board's representative on the committee set up in connection with the arrangements for the forthcoming Peace celebrations. Accounts amounting to £141 were passed for payment.
