United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Christchtjrch, September 11 Several local bakers who were interviewed by the "Lyttelton Times" to-day, stated that the trade was in great difficulty. The margin of profit on bread was small, and the master bakers had to work hard for light returns. They asserted that the Millers' Association had no control over the bakers, and thought that Mr T. E. Taylor had been misinformed. The general opinion was that the bakers could not possibly be more free than at present. The Christchurch butchers, acting on the advise of their solicitor,. have decided to kill at the municipal abattoirs at Sockburn as soon as the present supplies art exhausted in about a week's time. They have, therefore, withdrawn all opposition. Nelson, Sept. ..11. Mr W. S. Littlejohn, principal of jNelson College, has resigned having accepted a like position at the Presbyterian College, Melbourne. He leaves at the end of the year.
