(I- ,] MRS. J. G. PETTERSON. i There passed away 011 Easter Sun-| -lay a fine old type of pioneer in • ;i s I ettei son Senr, who reached Hie a«e of 95, being in fact only six weeks off 86.. She was born on j :he Island of Bisby, South of < Sweden in 1820. I ! I who treated 'them most hospitably, iMr Petterson acted as engineering blacksmith at the Duvauchelle sawl mills for one year and then went over to Mr Smith's sawmill at LeBon's Bay. He bought land at Le--1 Bon's and though 'he worked at Mr ( Dalglish's sawmill and later at the sawmill he kept up the ..farm all the time. In his absence ; | Mrs Petterson managed the farm ; and being- a very capable hard- • working woman looked after the ; property well. Mrs Petterson came ; to Akaroa several years ago .to live ! witlh her son Cardigan whp owns [ the Akaroa smithy. Her- husband -'predeceased her in 1910 as also did ! two daughters mafiy years, ago. ; She leaves three children, thirteen i grandchildren and fourteen great 'grandchildren. She enjoyed very . good' health until recently when she had a bad fall putting her shoulder • out of joint and this accident no . doubt hastened' her end. She was . buried at Le Bon's on Tuesday, Rev. ; A. H. Julius officiating when a very i large number of residents attended to pay her their last respects.
