Duke of Richmond, on the extreme right, was the first to show in front, with Plaisanterie in close attendance, Caltha being most prominent in the centre, the others well to the fore being Thebais, Isobar, Erism, St. Gatien, Despair,and Pizarro ; the next lot consisting of Barberhle, Cohort, Fulmen, Cipollina, and Clochette; while from the first Runnymede was beaten off. At the turn of the lands Plaisanterie and Duke of Richmond were almost side by side in front, and were followed by St. Gatien, Thebaip, Clochette, and Caltha, the same pair being still in front at the Criterion_startirig-pQst f by which time Bendigo had made his way into the next division, amongst whom were Barberine, Cohort, Prism, Isobar, and Eastern Emperor.. At 1 the I red post Duke of Richmond was beaten, and Plaisanterie was left with the lead, her nearest followers being Caltha, Prism, and Easterm Emperor, who had made up a 16 b of ground, Bendigo and St. Gatien coming next. Soonafter Prism was beaten, and Isobar and Barberine had had enough, leaving Caltha, Eastern Emperor, Bendigo, and St. Gatien in pursuit of the leader. The last-named, howeverl was never approached,'and won very easily by a couple of lengths, while a fine race ensued for second place, which Bendigo gained by a neck from, Eastern Emperor ; Caltha was fourth, the same distance behind the latter, and a head in 'front of St. Gatien, who was clear of- 'Clochette, sixth, Thebais seventh, Prism eighth, 1 ! The,;C!ondor ninth, Barberine tenth, Cohort eleventh, and The Sailor Prince twelfth. Runnymede walked in absolutely last, and very lame; behind Despair, Fulmen, and Middlethorpe. Without delay at the post they were got off to an excellent start, the first to show in front, being Atheling on the right, Ormonde and Gay Hermit being prominent in the centre, and Whitefriar and Miss.Jummy on the left. Before the Bushes were reaohed Whitefriar, who was pulling hard, had taken the lead, and down the hill he wag followed by Miss Jummy and Ormonde. Before entering the 'dip, Miss Jummy retired /rom the front rank, and Murdoch joined Whitefriar and Ormonde. The last named was then set going in earnest, and, quickly drawing out, he beat his stable companion easily by four lengths ; Murdoch was third, a head behind Whitefriar; then close up came Gay Hermit, just in front of Miss Jummy.
