Calais and Oberon on the left made joint running'from the Barchettina colt and Sunrise on the right, with Miss Jummy next in the centre, and St. Michael bringing up the rear behind Seaton. After entering the rails the Barchettina colt got into difficulties, and, although he struggled on, his efforts were of no avail, as Sunrise carried her colours to the front oppobite the stand, and won very cleverly by a length from Calais, who secured second money by a head. The Barchettina colt, who had been hampered by the second and third, was also beaten by a head from Oberon, with Seaton fifth, Miss Jummy sixth, and St. Michael last. Value of the stakes, £1437. After a delay of a quarter, of an hour, principally occasioned by the fractiousness of Present Times, the signal was given, and Laceman and Boulevard jumped off side by side. The favourite could not go the pace, and Laceman came over the hill with the inside berth clear of Despair, Langwell, and Dalmeny. These were followed in the centre by Corunna and Pearl Diver, and on the left by Goldstone, the second batch consisting of Duke of Richmond, Brag, and Albert Melville, in addition to Boulevard, while the rear was brought up by Maria Renata and Crosspatch. Although the favourite improved his position before entering the rails," he did not go fast enough to join the inside division, and Despair, having joined Lacemau a quarter of a mile from home, immediately took a slight lead. With Gladstone, Pearl Diver, and Albert Melville in trouble before reaching this point, Despair and Laceman were pursued by Dalmeny, Langwell, Duke of Richmond, and Corunna to the distance, when Dalmeny challenged, and soon getting the best of the heavyweights, he won somewhat easily by a length and a-half from Despair, who defeated Laceman by a head for second place. Golden Light cut out the work from Willie ' Darling, and the pair were soon clear of Florin and Paradox, with Royal Hampton next, and Ducat last. In this order they travelled to the top turn, where Willie Darling joined Golden Light, and in descending the hill Paradox and Ducat took third and fourth places. I There was no improvement, however, in a moderate pace, so that Paradox had to carry his colours to the front more than a-quarter of a mile from home. He immediately got rid of Willie Darling and Golden Light, and was challenged at the distance by Ducat and Royal Hampton, which pair changed positions opposite the stand. The race had no further alteration, as Paradox easily' resisted Royal Hampton by three-parts of a length, -with tho same distance between ' second and third. The lot now proceeded in single file to the Craven Course starting-post, when Cosmos passed Althorp, and Metal fell further astern. In this order they disappeared from view, but upon returning into sight at the old mile-post Eole had taken his place at the neck of Saucy Boy, and the pair went on a couple of lengths in front of Cosmos. Before reached the top of the hill Saucy Boy established a gap again from Eole, who was passed as they entered the straight by Cosmos, with Althorp also closing up. The favourite rushed to the head of affairs half-a-mile from home, and with Eole well beaten at this point, he was pursued by Cosmos and Saucy Boy until half-way up the rails, when the patiently-handled Metal took second place. He instantly got Althorp doing all he knew, and for a few strides opposite the stand there was nothing to choose between them, although, by running the longer and straighter, Althorp landed the odds by threepnrts of a length ; a bad third ; Eole was last.
