COMPENSATION COURT

MR F, W. ONGLEY APPOINTED (P.A.9 WELLINGTON, Tuesday The acting-Minister of Labour, Mr O'Brien, announced today that the Cabinet had approved of the appointment of Mr Frederick William Ongley, of Wellington, as. Judge of the Compensation Court, to replace Sir Justice O'Regan, who retired on July 31. Mr O'Brien paid a tribute to Mr Justice O'Regan's work as Judge of the Compensation Court and formerly the! Arbitration Court. Over a long period, said the Minister, lie was regarded as an outstanding authority 011 compensation law and lie filled the Court positions with distinction. The Minister said that Mr Onglev's appointment would be very popular. He was hold in high esteem by brother solicitors throughout the Dominion and had had an extensive practice in workers' compensation cases. The eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs P. Ongley, of Oamaru, Mr Ongley was born in Oamaru 66 years ago and was educated at St. Patrick's and Oamaru North schools. He studied law with Mr H. B. Crawford in Oamaru | and qualified as a solicitor in 1905. He practised in Oamaru for 20 years and from 1925 to 1926 he acted as Crown Solicitor in Timaru during the absence abroad of Mr W. D. Campbell. Mr Ongley moved to Wellington in 1927, where lie has been in practice ever since, latterly as a senior partner in the firm of Ongley, O'Donovan and Arndt. He is the father of seven children.
