OPENING OF THE BAPTIST CHAPEL, NELSON.
The opening services of the Baptist Chapel, in this town, were conducted on Sunday and Monday last. The Sunday morning sermon was preached by the Rev. S. Ironside, from the gospel by Matthew, chapter xvii., verse 5, In the afternoon the Rev. D. Dolamore, mininister of the congregation, preached from the Revelation, chapter ii., verse 1. The Rev. T. D. Nicholson conducted the evening service, preaching from Ephesians,. chapter v., verse 14. The congregations throughout the day were large, and evinced their interest in the erection by liberal conuibutions to the building fund.
[ On the Monday afternoon about 200 i persons took tea in the Nelson School Society's Schoolroom, kindly granted for the occasion ; tea having been provided by the ladies. At the evening meeting, held in the Chapel, which was numerously attended, A. Macdonald, Esq , presided. Interesting and effective addresses were delivered by Messrs. Daniel), Gardner, Saxton, Hough, Campbell, Packer; and by the Revds. T. D. Nicholson, S. Ironside, and D. Dolamore. Anthems and oiher pieces of sacred music were sung in the course of the evening, increasing the general satisfaction and pleasure of the assembly. The entire expenditure on the building, including the completion of existing contracts, will amount, so far as can be ascertained, to about £494.
