TROUBLE ABOUT A NEW DRESS

WANGANUI, Nov. 21. An inquest was held at Eltham today concerning the death of Gresham John Candish, whose body was found in the bathroom of his house yesterday, with his brains blown, out.

Albert-F. W. Wills, brother-in-law of the deceased, stated that he went to the house of the deceased on Sunday night between 7 and 8 o'clock. He asked Mrs Camdish for her husband, and she replied that he had srone out to make away with himself because they had a row over ,a new ■dress. He asked her if she thought he would do ®o, and she replied "No." Witness then left for home. On the following" morning he went back to ■deceased's house, and was met by Mrs Candish, who said to him: "Go into the bathroom I I believe he "(meaning her husband) has shot himself!" Witness saw blood coming from underneath the bathroom door, and said "Good God! He has done It." Witness then left for Constable Wade. Deceased had complained that his wife had been spending his money in dresses -arid flash clothes, and he could not afford it.

Then witness went out to look for someone. She met Mr Wills at the door, and asked him to go for Constable Wade, which he did.

The verdict of the jury was "that deceased met his death by a selfinflicted gun-shot wound while in a state of temporary insanity."
