■a- — MINISTERIAL SESSION

The ministerial session was continued on Thursday afternoon. The oral examination of Mr P. Batty, of Richmond, was_ conducted by the Rev. T.,R. Richards, and wa,s pronounced satisfactory. Mr Batty's Imok list was also dealt, with, and was favorably received. His trial sermon was awarded 6| marks. The Chairman moved the acceptance of Mr Batty as a candidate for the ministry, subject to his written examination proving satisfactory.— This was carried unanimously. The reading of a portion of the Liverpool Minutes by the Rev. T.-R. Richards brought the ministerial session to a close. LAY SESSION. The lay session commenced yesterday morning. The Chairman (the Rev. C. Baumber) extended a cordial welcome ±o the lay representatives, of whom +he following were present: —Nelson, Messrs A. Lucas and E. Grove; Richmond. Mr P. Batty; Reefton, Mr D. M. Anderson. It was stated that the Motueka circuit was under obligation to provide for a married minister. The Rev. T. N. Griffin moved that the chairman, bring the matter before the Motueka quarterly meeting and report the result to the Secretary of Conference.—Seconded by Mr A. A. T/ucas and carried. Regret was expressed that no home missionary during the year had been appointed to Seddon, and it was hoped that one would be speedily sent there. The statistical secretary (Rev. T. R. Richards) reported favorably on the circuit finance. The Rev. T. N. Griffin, moved that, a hearty vote of thanks be tendered to the district secretary, Mr J. Boon, and that his re-appointment be recommended to Conference. —Carried. It was reported that a new church j had been' erected at 13-reymouth, i costing: £1800. Nelson reported two.1 new schools at a cost of £1260, and also a gymnasium costing £45. The whol© property was cleaa1 of debt. Havelock reported minor improvements costing £G Bs. „_ Reports on the new theological college and the supernumerary fund, also a report from the district secretary, were read and received.
