DANIEL DEFOE'S NEXT

The two-year-old handicap races on the later days at the C.J.C. Meeting next week promise to be most interesting events. Among the fresh horses in these fields will probably be Daniel Defoe, Scandal, Baran, Lord Midas, and Scold, all of whom may prove themselves up to classic grade. Daniel Defoe's next appearance is being; keenly awaited, especially after his defeat at his second start at Trentham. He is not engaged on Monday, when the distance is four furlongs, but will run on either Wednesday or Saturday, when the distance is five furlongs. Scandal is the half-brother by Bulandshar to Beaupartir and he ran second to Daniel Defoe at Trentham at his only start to date. He looks like being the hard one to beat in the Irwell Handicap on Monday, as the better class is missing 'from that event. Scold, who has yet to race, has a I reputation in the south.
