McLIN HANOVER FOR ITALY

The most important sale of-a trotter in America this season is that of the Hambletonian Stake winner McLm Hanover, who has been purchased by Count P. O. Mangelii, of Italy. . , McLm Hanover raced very, indifferently as a two-year-old, but the experience worked wonders in him. He was still a maiden when he lined up for the big three-year-old classic, but he won" in straight heats. Later in the season he took a 1.59J record, and he is generally looked upon as a brilliant trotter. ____ | , MELBOURNE CUP FACTS The training record in connection with the Melbourne Cup is^held by E. de Mestre, who prepared five winners, Archer (twice), Tim Whiffler, Chester, and Calamia. . Four trainers prepared four wu* ners. They were John Tait, with The Barb, Glencoe. The Pearl, and ..The Quack; Walter Hickenbotham, with Carbine, Mentor, Newhaven, and Blue Spec; James Scobie, with Clean Sweep, King Ingoda, Bitalli, and Trivalve: and Richard Bradfield, with Patron, The Victory, Night Watch, and Backwood.
