NEW MOTOR WORKS

ENGLISH CARS POPULAR

The popularity of English cars in New Zealand is showing a steady increase, as a perusal of registration tigurcs will demonstrate. So much so is this the case that the question of local assembly plants is coming to the ford. The Rover Company of New Zealand, Ltd., which is a branch of the Eover Company of Coventry, England; is already moving in this direction. Before Christmas the company hopes to be in occupation of. a building now being erected in Jackson street, Petone, and there Rover cars will be assembled. As far as possible New Zealand material will be used, but parts which cannot be made locally will come from the English company's works. The building of the bodies locally will absorb New Zealand labour, whilst at the same lime it will help English.and Dominion industries.

Mr. Kntest Lewis, managing director ■if the Rover Company of 'New Zealand, Ltd., is leaving Wellington t.o-day for Kugland on business in connection wilh the now works, and by the time he returns, towards the, end of the year, the new venture, it .is anticipated, will be in full working order.
