The total number of licences granted during the lust financial year for the holding of raffles of works-of art, iis disclosed in the annual report of the Department of Internal Affairs, presented in the House of Representatives to-day, was 345, nine less than during the preceding year. .While the great majority of the permits were for the benefit of social organisations, a few of: them were in aid of invalids and indigent persons. Seven licences were granted to raffle mineral specimens, which in each case comprised alluvial gold of a value of *400,0. These raffles were in aid of the funds of community objects, and the total net profit derived "by the organisations concerned was & 100,412 13s Btl. ,
