COUNCIL MEETING

\ A meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Asosciation was licUl last night, Mr. R. AY. M'Villv- presiding.

A letter was received from tho Canterbury Centre stating .that it was proposed to hold'the 50 miles New Zealand Amateur Road Cycling Championship over an out-and-back course, at Christchurch on 10th October. Tho i-ace would be both a championship and a handicap event.

On the motion of Mr. H. Austad it was decided to apply to the International Women's Sports' Federation for affiliation. A letter received from the federation stated that the New Zealand Council's application for recognition as a world's record of a performance of 11 l-ssec for 100 yards by Miss Elaine Murtyn could not bo granted, as the only records accepted for examination were those, communicated by an affiliated federation. It was pointed out that the record was held by a French runner—Mile. Radideau—with 11 l-ssec. It was decided at the 1920 congress to register only metric distances ant] weights.

Having returned from a visit to tho West Coast, during which he had an opportunity of getting into touch with many athlel.es, Mr. Franklin stated that he thought there Was a very good chance of uDialeiir athletic clubs being started at Wi'stport and Grcymouth in the near future. Mr. Austnd said that there were good prospects of starting an amateur club at Blenheim.

The secretary was instructed to forward letters of condolence to the relatives of lie late Messrs. L. W. W. Browii and B. J. Esau, who were prominent in athletic circles at Hamilton and Auckland respectively. It was decided to hold the.'annual meeting of th association on Monday 18th November. . .-

W. J. Gower (filtiiain), C. Evans (Taihape), and'W. Taylor (Wanganui) were reinstated as amateurs.
