SPRINGSTON SOUTH
The death occurred recently of Mrs Stephen Keast, an old and highly esteemed resident of Springston South. With members of her family she had been out visiting and on her return home was stricken with a seizure from which she never rallied, the end coming within a few hours. Mrs Keast, who, before her marriage, was Miss Eliza Jane McMeekan, was born at Springston, where she spent her early life. Since her marriage she resided at Springston South. Of a gentle and kindly disposition, she made many friends, and was a keen supporter of the Methodist Church. Besides her husband, she leaves a family of one son and three daughters, Mr Wilfred Keast (Springston South), Mrs T. Pearson (Lincoln), Mrs M. Bray (Hornby), and Miss D. Keast (Springston South). There are seven grandchildren.
The funeral, which was a very large one, took place at the Springston Public Cemetery. The service was conducted by the Rev. C. H. Kendon and the pall-bearers were Messrs D. McMeekan (brother), E. McMeekan, R. McMeekan, E. Hoskin (nephews), T. Pearson, M. Bray (sons-in-law). Chambers and family; Mr and Mrs W. Mounce; Mr and Mrs W. Kerr (Oxford); Mr and Mrs J. Mutton and Ivy; T. J. Kerr and family; Mr and Mrs L. Crump; Mr and Mrs J. W. Kime; Mr and Mrs R. Manson; Mr and Mrs W. Peryman; Mr and Mrs F. Greaves; Miss Pearson; Miss Yarr.
The prize-winners at the weekly social were Miss Mona Carter and Mrs S. Bray, Mr Tom Hanna and Mr D. Ryan. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Elaine Bailey and Mr R. Wright. Dance music was supplied by Mrs P. Riordan and Miss Molly Riordan.
Mrs A. Manning, Coutts Island, is visiting her mother, Mrs R. G. Kimber.
