THE WAIKATO SAURIAN AGAIN.

That saurian monster has turned up again, this time at Scotchmans Valley between Cambridge and Matamata. A Me Paton living in that locality lost a draught horse recently, and on going to look at the animal last week, found to his surprise that it had been partly eaten, some of the large bones even " being crunched, while the carcase had been pulled round towards the creek. On a subsequent night, hearing the dogs barking, Mr Paton procured a gun and went to ascertain the cause, finding however that the dogs had all retired under the house be thought it advisable to return inside himself. Next morning footprints were found leading from the vicinity of the house across soft ground but lost on hard ground beyond. They are described as being; the impression of a large pad with three claws in front. Some of Mr Bussells children living close by came running home one day, saying they had seen the monster. As an armed party have left Cambridge for the purpose of solving this mystery if possible, we may hear more on the subject. Perhaps however the animal is journeying towards the Wonderland of New Zealand in which case we may possibly discover his name on the visitors list of one of the Rotorua hotels shortly. Already a Waikato Barnum is making preparations for exhibiting carcase of the "baste" round the colony.
