EBENEZER HAMLIN.
Mr Ebenezer Hamlin, the member for Franklin, is the ninth son of the late Rev. James Hamlin, and was born iv 1844 at Orua, near Manukau Heads. At the outbreak of the Taranaki War, then only 16 iyfears of age, he was sworn into tho first [Battalion of Auckland Militia, and subsequently he served with distinction in tho Waikato War, with the Waiuku volunteers. He has always takon a great interest in volunteering, and has done a great deal to promote the efficiency of the force in his own district. Mr Hamlin was a member of the Auckland Provincial Council from laoß till the abolition of the provinces in 1875, and ac the ensuing general election he was returned as member tor Franklin in the House of Representatives. He has represented the same district ever since, and at the last general election he defeated Mr Harris, Ins opponent of yesterday by 502 against 454 votes ; a third candiS, Mr Kinwford, polling 243. Mr Hamlin h» held the position of Chairman of Committee* in tho House of Representatives since 1881-82, and has been one ot the most papular men in the House.
