The commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the historic landing of the New Zealanders at Gallipoli was given effect to on Friday last (Anzac Day) by the holding of memorial services throughout the whole Dominion. In Auckland there was a procession of returned soldiers from the wharf up Queen Street, Wellesley Street, Symonds Street, across the Grafton Bridge to the Domain, where an impressive memorial service was conducted by Bishop Averill, among those present being His Excellency the Governor-General Lord Liverpool and Lady Liverpool. The procession of soldiers is shown passing Custom Street. Those of the soldiers whose disabilities precluded them from marching were conveyed at the head of the procession in motor cars.

DETERMINED TO MAKE THEIR PRESENCE FELT WHEN DESPATCHED TO FRANCE TO AID THEIR BRAVE COMRADES FROM THE UNITED STATES.—AMERICAN TROOPS MARCHING THROUGH THE WEST END, LONDON, SOON AFTER DISEMBARKATION IN ENGLAND, PREPARATORY TO PROCEEDING TO FRANCE. The expeditious manner in which America has already despatched over a million men to France is the most gratifying omen from an Allied standpoint in connection with the 1918 campaign, and the maintenance of this remarkable war effort is undoubtedly destined to bring the final triumph of the Allied cause much closer. A PROCESSION WHICH THRILLED LONDONERS—AN AMERICAN CONTINGENT MARCHES THROUGH THE STREETS OF THE METROPOLIS, CREATING AN EXCELLENT IMPRESSION, THEIR SPLENDID PHYSIQUE, SOLDIERLY BEARING AND TRAINED APPEARANCE AROUSING MUCH ENTHUSIASTIC COMMENT. THE ILLUSTRATION SHOWS THE STARS AND STRIPES AND THE AMERICAN EAGLE BEING PROUDLY BORNE THROUGH PICCADILLY.

BRITAIN’S INEXHAUSTIBLE SUPPLY OF RESERVES.—LONDON SCOTTISH MARCHING TO THE TRENCHES TO' ASSIST THE BRITISH IN THE GREAT OFFENSIVE ON THE SOMME. Every day the Allied Army grows in magnitude, and various calculations have been made regarding the huge number of British troops that have been sent to France. A feature of the British and French advance is that it is being made with a minimum loss of life, for though both nations possess enormous reserves they have purposely refrained from the grave error of pressing more than the required number of men into action, a course which has enabled the authorities to relieve the men in the fighting line at regular intervals. When the time is ripe no doubt the full weight of the Allies’ enormous reserves will be hurled against the Huns, when sudden and decisive results can confidently be looked for. First came a body of Marines (shown on left of picture) marching with arms reversed.4 This was followed by a band of the Royal Marine Artillery, which played funeral marches, with all their strangely mingled grief and suggestion of hope. 2.
