Carved head of Hone Heke, a famous rebel chief of Ngapuhi, who lived in the early years of last century. His first act of defiance against the pakeha was to chop down the flagpole at Kororareka. In 1845 he won three engagements against the British but was later defeated. The carving is part of a carved house support, but from what house or place it comes is not known. It has found a resting place in the Dominion Museum.
