In addition, there is a long list of men in the corporation’s employ, but not on the clerical staff, who have enlisted and are serving overseas, or in the training camps. A group of Empire flags provid ed a background of colour for the orchestra on the stage, which had been enlarged and brought forward to make the hall smaller and more, comfortable. Greenery and hydrangeas - surrounded the stage, and coloured lights, the work of the electricity department, most effectively transformed, the ceiling into a sky of myriad hues. Empire flags also decorated the overhanging balcony, and pennants added colour to the alcoves beneath, where chairs were arranged in groups for sitting out. The decorations were in Mr. E. Kemsley’s charge. The dance was attended by more than 500 members of the clerical staff and other employees, and was a very happy and informal gathering. The guests of honour were the centre of attraction throughout the evening, and several speeches were made, including one by the mayor. Mr. J. W. Jenkins spoke for the'guild, and Captain G Thomas replied on behalf of the soldier guests. Mr. Ray Tiewern and Mr. A. H Woods gave.solos, Mr. J.
