ESSAY AND POSTER COMPETITIONS We have pleasure in publishing the results of the Essay and Poster Compctitions inaugurated at the beginning ofl the year, with the commt*i „ of the judges. Our heartiest congratulations go t 0 the successful competitors, and to those who have come so closely behind them ESSAY: “Beverage Alcohol: Prime Enemy of Good Citizenship.” First, Pearl Weaver, Flelensville District High School; £lO. Second, R. W. Burton, Wellington College; £3. Third, D. Gray, Wellington College £2. Judge’s Comments The winner was an easy first. The essay was logical, well arranged and thoughtful. Some of the candidates imagined themselves to be haranguing a crowd, and used language not suitable lor an j essay. Some indulged in extravagant language, and many failed to expre<> thought clearly. Most candidates show a good knowledge of temperance, but too many spent more time than necessary cn the scientific, instead of the socialogica aspect.
