THE 1918 CONVENTION.

Dear White Ribbon Sisters,

Doubtless many of you will have been wondering when our next Annual Convention is to be held. In view of the poll to be taken on April loth, it was felt that Convention could not be held at the usual time, seeing that all would be busy in their respec tve d >tii«ts with enrolment work, the distribution of literature, or other preparation lor the pe*l. Moreover, with Dominion Prohibition hanging in the- baiance. it would have been mpossible to plan for the work of the ensuing year. It was therefore d*tided to post|>one the Convention till after the poll, and the jjrd of April is fixed for the opening day. I his is immediately aft*r the Paster holidays, which will, perhaps, give delegates an opportunity of combining attendance at the Convention with a preliminary holiclav.

Napier is to be the seen** of th*' annual visit ol the' New Zealand lni**n, and members will look forward to a few days’ sojourn in this beautiful little town.

District Presidents, Secretaries, and lrc'asuiers, New Zealand Superintendents of Departments, Organ.sers and Organising Treasurers, with the New Zealand officers, are, ex ofti.io, mem hers i.f the Convention. Each Bran* h is «*ntitled to send one delegate for every 100 or fr. clion of 100 members, but no delegate can represent more than one Hr.-nth. An important alteration wa*- made at last Convention with reference to th»* appointment of delegates, so tha* a Lmon enable to send a delegate from amongst i s own members, may elect as delegate any other member of the tt.C.T.v provided she is resident in it' Distrct. This will obviate the necessity for asking for a proxy to be appointed. Should there be my Cnion, however, that >tr.| desires a proxy, it will be necessary to send we woid to that effect and to enc lose Erections as to voting for the New Zealand officers and to \ot itg on thr Notices of Motion. Of these theie re two: Hie first, to lie moved by drs Peryman, “That as l nions may »ow choose as their delegate any nember in the r own Distr ct, Article 11. of the Constitution be amended •y deleting the words ‘No proxy*- shell

be appointed, etc.,’ to. the end.” If this motion is passed, the effect will be to do away with proxies altogether. The second notice of motion, to be moved by Miss Macarthy, is that Article IV. be amended by inserting after the words “Editor and Hus.ness Manager of the ‘White Ribbon’” die words “and Superintendents *»| not less than 4 noi more than to Depart ments, to be selected by the Exec u live.” The pupiosc of this is to give to the Superintendents of the more important Departments a seat on the Dominion Executive during the time* of the Annual Convention. Members of Convention are expect ed to present their credentials at tlm Keeept on, 01 at the first Session. Will the Secretaries phase remem her to -.end me th*' names of delegates as soon as possible, and to state their official position, whether District President or Secretary, etc. ?

Every Union should endeavour to be represented at this coming Conven tion. If th*' poll on April ic.th i> in our favour as we all ho|>c and pray it may be, and as many signs seem to show that it can be it will be a hitoric occasion, in which all will wish to have some part. To that end let us all devote our best energies, that t<» us, as to th** woman of old, it may be sa d. “According to your faith, he it unto you.” Nours iti White Ribbon bonds, KATE M EVXNS, Recording Secretary. i<). liiropi Street. Wellington.
