MAORI ORGANISER'S REPORT.

After visiting the* rest of the Unions in Kaipara Harbour, I proceeded to Auckland. On calling on our Superintendent, Mr- I lug hi*', I was very sorry to find her on a>u k bed. She is very bright, and i> well on the road to recovery. I then left Onehunga for llokianga. We left cm Thursday by the s.-*. Claymore, but owing to rough weather, did ih»t arrive at our destination till Sunday morning. Since then I have visited some of »h»* Unions. The* Waimamaku Union deserves special mention, a> they f 1 r-1 heard of the* W'.C.T.U. through members of the Ahikiwi Union, who sent them booklets and cards. Then, with the help of the ir minister. Rev. M. Taumarere, a Union was established. 1 hey have already received a visit from Mrs Harris. Two of the members have Sunday S« hool for the* c hildrcn, and some* visit the si< k. I find that these Unions arc* of great help in charitable work amongst their own people, helping to defray hospital expenses, and so forth. They had many questions to a>k a> to plans of work. Pakanae Union was .very puzzled on the churc h subject, having thought that members must all belong to the one church. However, that being explained satisfactorily, many have joined who belong to different churches. To-day 1 ride to Whiri naki, where 1 hope to form a Union. The members at Waimamaku have provided me with a horse, and are sending one of their number to accompany me on the long ride. All the* travelling in thi> district has to be* done on horseback, through very rough roads, -o that one cannot push ahead as quickly as one could in more* c ivilised country. The* married members of Unions would be glad if more of Dr. Pomare’s pamphlets on care of infants would be printed for distribution amongst those* who are not yet enlightened as to the* best way to care for the babes.
