Anti-Gambling.
The Churches have of late been moving in the matter of the gambling evil. From Presbyterian Assembly, Methodist Synods and the Dunedin Council of Churches have issued vigorous pronouncements against the totalisntorand other forms of gambling. Fhe latter body “ lodged an emphatic protesUagainst the proposal to increase the tax oil the totalisntor and to apply the proceeds to hospital maintenance and charitable a»d, believing that tlii> would only render the ultimate abolition of the machine more difficult and I involve the c< *ony more deeply in complicity with this special form of legalised gambling.
