Canter Institute. A was held on Aug. A letter was received from Mr Parclay, M.H.R., in reference to his Household Assistants' Half-holiday Bill, which, he said, he feared there was not much hope of getting through this year, owing to the press of Government business. Mr Barclay, however, hoped the measure would pass in a future session, and thanked the Institute for strengthening his hands. No reply having been received from the In-spector-General of Schools to the Institute’s request that members of the committee should be permitted to visit the Te Oranga Homear.d the Burnham Industrial School without arranging beforehand dates with the managers of these institutions, it was resolved to write again, urging an answer before the date of the next meeting ot the Institute, on Sept. 12. The President expressed her intention of giving an address on “Charitable Aid,” to which she wished the publ c to be invited, and it was resolved that various societies should be communicated with and asked to attend and also induce others to be present. A discussion followed on the means to be adopted in reference to the election ol women at the forthcoming Charitable Aid Board and Hospital Board elections in November, and several ladies were asked to allow themselves to be nominated. One new member was elected.
