Speaking at the Mothers' Union • festival m the Nelson Cathedral on the responsibilities and opporunities of motherhood, Bishop Stephenson quoted" an utterance of Carlyle's, who stated that the great spiritual influence m his life had come from his knowledge of his mother's constant prayers for him. Christian character building, thereby fitting children to take their rightful place, m the world, encouraging them to see some of their recreation within their own homes, and a right conception of the dignity of one's daily work were^ points stressed by the speaker.
