Bishop of The Diocese at Gisborne.
Last month : was an eventful period m the history of Holy ; Trinity Parish* for it marked the, first official visit of the newly-consecrated Bishop of Waiapu, the Rt. Rev. C. G. Cruickshank. On Monday, February 12, His Lordship was accorded a welcome by parishioners m the Parish Hall. Addresses were delivered by Canon Hall and Mr A. Trevor Coleman, Vicar's Warden, and were suitably responded to by His Lordship, and the meeting then developed into a typical social evening, the Bishop taking advantage of the occasion to meet as many parishioners as pos-^ sible. His charming manner and his geniality made him at once extremely popular with all with whom he came m contact, and there were many wishes expressed that : His Lordship should, if possible, make frequent visits to Gisborne. ■■■-.'■.- ' ■■' Oh Sunday, February .18, the church was filled almost to capacity at the evening service when the Bishop delivered an address. In the course of his remarks His Lordship appealed for more workers m the Church. Huriian life, he said,. was not a gift, but' was a trust' hedged around with great responsibilities. No work m the Church was too small ion- any man or woman. Organisation was essential m Church work, ■ just as it was m the Army. That was one of the principal lessons of the war. The huge task of invasion, for instance, represented a multiplication of individual tasks. So also, m the Church. Each individual -had his or her own part to play. Critics of the Church frequently said that many , people who went to church were -hypocrites. But who was the greater hypocrite^ the person who stopped at home and' criticised, or the man or wonian who went to church and performed even a very small duty for that church? "Give me a score of converted men and women m every parish of my diocese; of men, and women who have faith and feel the call of God," said His Lordship. "Let these men and women help me to bring the light of the Gospel into the hearts and homes of the people of this diocese. Let them be pudged by what they ure, by their characters and their very beings. Then and then only will the diocese be won for God, and all that is needful will follow."
