New Zealander Made Metropolitan of Province of Canada.

The Most Reverend Philip Carrington, M.A., Litt.D., S.T.D., D.C.L., D.D., was recently enthroned as Archbishop of Quebec and Metropolitan of the Province of Canada. Archbishop Carrington, who is 52 years of age, is the son of a distinguished New Zealand churchman. He was ordained m Christchurch 26 years ago and served as an assistant-curate and later as a parish priest m that Diocese from 1918 to 1923. Dr. Carrington later moved to Adelaide m South Australia and from there went to Lennoxville University** as Dean of Divinity. In 1935 at the age of 42 years he succeeded the Right Rev. Lennox Williams as Bishop of Quebec and a few weeks ago was unanimously elected Metropolitan by his Brother Bishops m the Ecclesiastical Province of Canada m succession to the Most Rev. John Mackenley, of Nova Scotia, who passed to his rest a few months ago. His Grace who is recognised as an author of repute is a distinguished, member of a highly difted family: His advancement m the counsels of the Church has been as meteoric as his academic triumphs were outstanding. Dr. Carrington's father was for some years was principal of College House — a leading theological college m New Zealand and later was appointed Dean of Christchurch. New Zealanders will join m trusting that His Grace may long be spared to defend the rights and liberties of the Church of England m Canada.
