EDITORIAL.

Board of Missions Chairman. — This Diocese will rejoice m the honour that has been conferred upon our Bishop m his election to the above position. We are sure that we speak for all Church people when we respectfully offer our congratulations to His Lordship, and wish him a long and happy term of office. Synod is again upon us, and without doubt the fortunes of our Church Gazette will be widely discussed. We believe the Gazette has paid its way, and that is matter for thankfulness. But earnest consideration is necessary m dealing with the circulation of the paper. It was thought at last Synod that an attractive cover would do the trick. But alas and alack! we have tried two attractive covers (at least some think so), without any appreciable advance being made. To-day we try yet another colour, and we trust that miembers of Synod will be so charmed with it, that they will return to their various! parishes determinejd not only to increase the number of subscribers, but to obtain advertisers to fill m the "waste places" on both covers. The Printer's Devil.— We have often wondered whether this is a real being, or purely a mythical creation. But now we know, as surely as Kipling's men who saw the sea-serpent were sure. By his fruits we know him. It could be no myth that dared

to accuse such esteemed contributors as our Bishop, Archdeacon Maclean, Canon Neild and others of digging up facts of history that are much better forgotten, and even of emphasising them. In a reply to a correspondent on page 8, para. 2 of our last issue, we read "stressing undesirable historical facts." The editor wrote "undeniable," but the old serpent won by a stroke of real genius. We tender our sincere apologies to our contributors. It must have been a bad season for editors of Church papers last month, as m a southern journal we saw that a "Guild of Sinners" were commended on excellent services, rendered. A harassed editor explained that he said "Guild of Servers."
