St. Luke's Church. Havelock North.
Vicar: Rev. Canon J. A. Lush. The yicar confesses ; that he has been profiteering .accidentally. The
charge for 'the "Gazette" and "ProArincial Paper" is not 4s, but 3s. He is very sorry he has made the mistake. The event of the month has been the visit of the Rev. W. J. Durrad, for many years a missionary m Melanesia, now organising' secretary for the N.Z. Board of Missions. His object has been to stir lip missionary zeal, to , suggest ' service m the mission field ; to the young, and to ask for financial help. God only, knows hoY he has succeeded. He made it clear that we cannot be Christians without having missionary zeal. 'Go ye into all the world' are the marching orders of .our Lord. We can all do something to help by first, prayer; second, almsgiving. At the confer- - ence after the lantern- lecture it was agreed that Whitsun Week should be the period for gathering m missionary subscriptions — none will be asked to give at any other time of the -year. Mrs Douglas Williams and Mr Har-, vey have consented to act as secretaries, and ' Miss Myra Ridgway as box- secretary. As Whitsun. Week is ■just lately over, it is- suggested that we should pay m half-yearly subscriptions at once, and begin the full year next Whitsuntide. If it is wished that a subscription be given to any - special society^ it -should' be made Clear, otherwise the Central Board Will distribute as it I thinks best. A missionary box can be; had on application to Miss Myra Ridgway or the Vicar. May we rise to our missionary call. ; • Church' SchooL--Number on books, 6 boys and 12 girls. A fireplace has been built. into the school.. ' : The CJB.M.S. m New Zealand has started a scheme for outc.oming' im/migrants; a great need. It has got as far 'as appointing a port officer, for Wellington. Very soon, it is hoped, it .will /.be,- possible to set , up /hostels at the chief ports. The scheme depends on- the hearty support of everyone? / •The G.F.S. is. going -slowly .ahead. Miss Dobbie ;'s physical culture class ' is much appreciated.' / The, Lads 'Craft Guild is Raiting: for orders, which can be arranged With/Mr Maiden. , ; ' /■ Our very; best- wishes go but to-, Miss Smart, who is to be married on July 21st.; An innovation. Mr Ball reinforced the ofgan with ; the- violin at one of :• the- services. Will others volunteer to ; ..join him? / //'- ... Vicar is sorry he has neglected Pukahu so much. It was his turn as Canon to preach at the Cathedral on the third Tuesday m July. v Many •thanks , to.
