Papers of Rodolph Lysaght Wigley, 1881-1946. (ATL ref. MS-Group-2402) In 1906, Rodolph Lysaght Wigley founded the Mount Cook Motor Car Service. This scrapbook page features a newspaper cutting of an image and caption detailing Wigley's ascent of Mt Cook in the winter of 1923. Wigley's Mount Cook Motor Co, later called Mount Cook Landlines, went on to provide inter-city and sightseeing coach services throughout New Zealand. Also featured is the 'geologystical implement of primary puncture' - the rock responsible for disabling the tire of a Darracq 40 HP, the first car to make the journey from Queenstown to Mt Cook as part of Wigley's transport service.
