Parsons, Herbert. [A Scottish Missionary Coming Ashore Confronted by Warring Maori, 1868]. Watercolour. A dramatic and somewhat inaccurate view of an early Maori encounter with missionaries. Probably an imaginary depiction. Purchase.

Richmond, James Crowe, 1822-1898. [Near Takaka] 1870 and Greymouth, 1862. Drawn 1887. 2 watercolours. The view near Takaka shows members of the Richmond family walking toward Takaka on foot and horseback on a painting expedition. One of the group is thought to be the artist, another his daughter, artist Dorothy Kate Richmond, as a girl. The Greymouth view looks northward to the mouth of the Grey River. Purchases.

Curtis family. Papers, 1915-1918. 3 folders. Comprise mainly letters from Sergeant Michael Curtis of the Wellington Mounted Rifles while serving in Egypt, and who was killed in 1917. Flannery, Anne Margaret, 1931-2001. Papers, 1938-2001. 30 cm. Correspondence, programmes and cuttings relating to the career of a prominent New Zealand actress of both stage and film, who was influential in the establishment of professional theatre in Wellington and was a co-founder of the New Zealand Drama School. Glass, Henry, 1872-1959. Letters, 1917-1918. 3 folders. Henry Glass, despite his age, enlisted with the Wellington Infantry Regiment during World War I, and was posted to Sling Camp in the UK. Describes his training, embarkation and life and duties in the camp. The final letter is written on Armistice Day in 1918. Includes a key identifying people mentioned in his letters. Donation: H. Krasniqi, Mazhar Shukri, 1931—. Papers Relating to Islam in New Zealand, 1963-2003. 0.3 m. Mazhar Shukri Krasniqi arrived as a refugee from Albania in 1951. He has since been President of the New Zealand Muslim Association, and of the

Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand. Papers relate to the creation of the Federation, the construction of the first mosque in Auckland, halal meat agreements with the Meat Producers' Board, contacts with international Muslim movements, controversies and Muslim community newsletters. McColl, Alexander Bastin (Captain), d. 1916. War Diaries, January 1915-July 1916. 2 volumes. Captain McColl served with the Wellington Regiment of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Gallipoli and France before being killed at Amentieres. Murry, John Middleton, 1889-1957. Annotated Copy of 1929 Edition of Katherine Mansfield's Letters, 1929-[ca 1951], 2 volumes. First USA edition of Katherine Mansfield's letters (New York: Alfred Knopf, 1929), extensively annotated, expanded and corrected by Murry. Some annotations have been added directly to the text while others have been written on separate sheets of paper and tipped in. O'Connell, John Joseph. War Diary, 1918. 1 volume. O'Connell served with the Auckland Infantry Regiment of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. The diary gives a detailed account of the advance through Belgium to the German border in November 1918, following the Armistice. Purchase.

Comprise the papers of the botanist, ecologist and author, ranging from his school and university days through his work in Australia to the DSIR and Department of Conservation. Powles family. Further Papers, 1900-1994. 1.3 m. The papers relate to Sir Guy Powles and his father, Colonel Charles Guy Powles. They include family correspondence, diaries kept by Colonel Powles during World War I, political and other papers relating to Sir Guy Powles' tenure as New Zealand's High Commissioner in Western Samoa 1949-1961, and as first Ombudsman in New Zealand, appointed in 1961.
