Capped Master of Science George Habib of Tuwharetoa and Arawa descent, has graduated M.Sc. with distinction in zoology at Canterbury University, and is continuing on to complete his Doctorate with a thesis on the red cod. Born at Oruanui, 12 miles north of Taupo, he is the eldest son of George Habib and Monica (nee Thomas), and is a nephew of the writer Rowley Habib. George attended Oruanui Primary School, and except for one year at Rotorua High School, had all C. H. Parks
his secondary education at the newly-formed Taupo-Nui-a-Tia High School, where in his last year he was head prefect. All his university education has been at Canterbury.
