Art Contest The Tairawhiti Regional Committee of the M.W.W.L., who organised the conference at Gisborne certainly had some new ideas! One that stimulated a lot of interest by secondary school pupils was an art contest. The competition was for a design that could be used to decorate the cover of the conference folder, sold to delegates to hold their papers. The winner was a Pakeha boy, who had used a Maori motif. The two runners-up, one a Maori boy, used designs of European origin. The three boys, Colin Brooks. Richard Calcott and Paul Whaanga, are pictured with their designs. They were given prizes by the local organising committee.
