Mothering and Management: If a baby is to develop normally in mind and body, he must have loving care and wise management. Too much indulgence means spoiling, and a spoilt child is usually unhappy and a source of annoyance to those with whom he comes in contact. A baby should never be allowed to lie passively in his cot, but his position should be changed from time to time and a certain time should be set aside for “mothering.” That is the child should be nursed in his mother's arms, carried about, and played with.
