AUCKLAND After a busy April in Auckland — including an awesome set by Grooverider at the Box — this month looks kinda quiet with just three international DJs entering the country for their tour of duty. Two of the DJs in question are appearing in Auckland on the same night, however, they play completely different styles so are unlikely to be competing for punters. Hopefully this coincidence will prove Auckland's ability to accommodate two large international events on one night. On May 23. DJ SS will take his weighty collection of Drum and Bass dub plates to the Box, with MC Warren G (no, not the 'G-Funk' Warren G) also appearing. In the other corner, Paul Trouble Anderson will be laying down house grooves across town at the Powerstation — if uplifting moments are your thing, he's your man ... Lightspeed are back in action with the tour of DJs Raw and Tempo, who play Auckland on May 29 at the Kase. This duo are sure to provide a night of solid, deep smooth house, mixed with a touch of Garage — an evening for serious house lovers only ... Kushtisees Terry Francis at Herzog on May 15, with Chelsea and Grant Dell in support... local stuff this month; Mechanism, Blackcat, Matrix, and

Aaron are together at Herzog on May 30 under the banner, Follow The leader ... Nick D'Angelo presents Island Of EA at Squid on May 31 with DJs Gideon, JRP, and Havoc. In addition, D'Angelo is planning a Sleaze Ball and is working with Gideon and Chelsea on, "a new duo night, different in format and approach than other events because we feel Auckland club lite is really dull," says NDA ... Realness and Chicago continue at the Box and Celebre respectively, every Thursday evening ... and finally, keep your ears peeled for a 95bFM organised dance party nappenina towards the end of June, featuring a fashion show and the creme oflwall)Js - mm WELLINGTON Firstly, shout outs to the Roots Foundation who laid on a wicked night at the Boatshed on April 9, that featured The Nomad and 50Hz, plus DJs Mu K-Tel, Goosebump, and Lemon. Good music and good herb was enjoyed by all who attended ... other recent events worth mentioning include Shindig at the Fishbowl on May 2, on unashamed

Salmonella Dub delivered an awesome one at James Cabaret the night beforeat Mayday, supported by the Coneheads (featuring members of Shinad ana HLAH amongst others)... upcoming, the HeadZ and DJ K-Tel play at the Valve (ex Hole In The Wall) on May 22 ... the following night Gash Of The Titans goes down upstairs at Edward Street, and boasts DJs Mu, Manuel Bundy, and 48 Sonic, plus a special performance from Loor (aka K-Tel ana Filter) ... other events this month are Combinations (May 9), Extra Tasty (15), Discotek (16), Lift (23) and AIR (30) — see street flyers for more details ... otherwise, rumours floating around for June include Derrick Carter, and Peshay. DJ FRUITY CHRISTCHURCH April kicked off with a bang when the great man Grooverider hit town, his superb set of funky beats was a refreshing change to the normal darkness in drum and bass ... 081 and Yoji Biomehanika rocked the foundations of the Ministry on April 9 with a capacity crowd present. Yoji was without a doubt the best show DJ I've ever seen, keeping the crowd enraptured for over two hours ... the big disappointment of the year (perhaps of all time in Chch) was the no-show by trancemaster Oliver Lieb. Lieb's Oz promoter phoned during the early hours of the morning on the day of the show to say that Lieb was too ill to come to NZ. Hundreds of punters, including people that had travelled from around the country were bitterly disappointed. Nonetheless, the party went ahead, Mechanism flew down from Auckland and 081 played a wicked set to compensate ... onto this month. On May 9, Hard Wars, a (guess what?!) hardcore party with DJs DMan, Pylon, Disorder, Conductor, Medicine Man, and Innovator, will be happening at the Source ... May 21 sees one of the UK's premier tech house DJs, Terry Francis, playing at the Suite, with Welli's Filter and Chch's Sneaky P supporting ... the following night, DJ SS and MC Warren G will hit the Ministry tor another night of drum and bass, courtesy of Subtronix ... until
