Auckland Max TV are staging a free all ages concert at the Powerstation on October 18, with Dead Flowers, Loves Ugly Children, Thorazine Shuffle, and Propeller in attendance ... the annual 95bFM Private Function is happening on November 21. The venue is yet to be confirmed, but will most likely be the Railway Station, says b’s Promotions Manager, Simon Coffey. Acts rumoured (but also unconfirmed) are Shihad, and Chch’s Stereo Bus ... ex Hallelujah Picassos singer Harold, has formed a new band, Judas Invader, and is negotiating an album deal with a Dutch/German label ... the Labour Monday gig at the Kings Arms Tavern in Newton will be headlined by Superette, and also playing are Pet Rocks, Smoothy, Lure Of Shoes, Real Fabrica, Hip, Mace Sets, and Delta. The gig starts early afternoon ... @Luna celebrate their first birthday on Oct 10, with Salmonella Dub plus guests. Also this month, the Hatching band competition enters the semi-final stage ... Che Fu has finished pre-pro-duction for his debut album, and beginnings recording proper this month at Karekare. Meanwhile, DLT will begin demoing tracks for his second album in November. JOHN RUSSELL Hamilton Contact 89FM are releasing a compilation album of Hamilton music in November to celebrate the station’s 21st birthday. The album features 15 bands including; Dean, Nodrog, Inchworm, Grok, Trucker, the Nerve, Ghidrah, Fallen, and Southern Tribe ... Nodrog’s (Gordan Bassett) own album, How to Hold a Plectrum, will be lauched at JBC on October 9. Also playing will be instrumental surf group, the Hollow Grinders, and the Colin Bland Band ... Pugnaut are through to the semi finals of Auckland’s Hatching band competition

Recorded last month, it features Damsel, Dispatch, Helltooth, Talisman, Small Excusion, Low, Clowndog, Epitar, Dilhole, Liquid Biscuit, Shrug, and Lipid ... the Black Fly Bar is working well as a venue with a recent Decay Dance I Queerfish Women’s Refuge benefit filling the room ... SARAH SOUNDCHECK Dunedin Recent gigs at the revitalised Crown Hotel have included Smile, Guevara, and live gabba act, Oblivion By All Means Necessary ... Dirtlove Records (Matt Middleton and Shaun Jury) are throwing together another dirty compilation, a follow up to the Say Something Funny album. Y.E. music has made it onto the TV4 show Ski Express, with such acts as Fold, Syzygy, and Funhouse.
