Kurt Cobain's
Nirvana cancelled their British tour after singer Kurt Cobain’s overdose from a mix of a tranquilliser Roipnoi (used for severe cases / of insomnia) and champagne on Friday March] 4 while holidaying in Rome. He was discovered unconscious in the early hours of the morning; by his wife Courtney Love and taken to Rome’s Umberto B 1 Hospital where he was put on a life support system and his stomach was pumped out. : He was then rushed to an American private clinic where he reportedly lapsed into a coma. He regained consciousness later in the day but remained listed as “critical". Management claim that by the Sunday he was well enough to reply to mail sent to him
byfans. Thetranquiliserhad been purchased : at an ■ all-night chemist at midnight by hotel. staff for Cobain and he ordered the champagne later from room service. As Cobain has been; known for. using hard drugs ; and concerts were cancelled: in Germany prior to the overdose, there has been. speculation that there was more in the nearfatal mix than was declared. The official reason for cancelling the German dates was bad throat and flu. However Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks who opened for Nirvana in Spain and France told NME that Cobain wasn’t even partying, He would just wish us good night and go off for an early night."
