New NZ ON AIR Schemes On February 16, NZ ON AIR announced two new schemes to help get more NZ "hit" music on air — a Radio Hits Production Scheme where "significant" commercial airplay will be rewarded with up to a SSOOO reimbursement of costs and a Kiwi Hit Disc where NZ ON AIR will fund a CD compilation of new NZ tracks, five times a year, and supply copies to all radio stations.' Both concepts are considered to be experiments and will not detract from NZ-ON Alß's budget for their highly successful Music Video Scheme. NZ ON Radio Hits Production Scheme • Aim to provide incentive for Record Companies to produce records for contemporary hit radio. ’ . • • • Funding for NZ bands / artists with priority to original NZ music. • "Significant Airplay" means a minimum of four weeks on playlist of 91FM, ' Radio Hauraki or Mai FM. - • In certain circumstances a non-Auckland contemporary hit radio station will be considered. ; ' • Record must be released by a major or indie and distributed nationally via

established distributor. • "Spot play" is not enough to qualify. • Record Company costings must be auditable. • Costs recognised by the scheme: Recording, manufacture, art, packaging and promotion costs. • NZ ON AIR has a budget of $200,000 in the trial year. • Application dates: Fridays April 2, May 28, July 30, October 1 and November 19.

NZ ON AIR Kiwi Hit Disc - • Concept initiated by Jeremy Freeman, Warner Music. •Current or soon-to-be-released singles with potential for significant airplay. • Priority to original music but covers accepted. • Radio programmers will participate in the selection of tracks. • 15 tracks on each CD. • Record Companies must supply a DAT master.
